In today’s gospel, Lazarus is “invisible” to the rich man. The rich man is so focused on his own wants and pleasures, he ignores the needs of those around him. Even after the rich man dies, he does not change his selfish heart. The rich man’s concerns are only for his comfort and the comfort of his rich family. The rich man did not help those in need during his earthly life because there was no compassion in his heart. Therefore, he was denied everlasting life with God.
Do we treat the poor, the sick, and the elderly as invisible in our own lives? God has a special affinity for the poor and suffering. It is our calling to be the hands of Jesus offering assistance to them whenever and however we can. We should not be like the rich man who ignored the needs of those around him who were suffering. We must not let our hearts get so full of “me, me, me” that we lose sight of those around us.
The more we do for others, the more God will do for us. The trials of this life will pale in comparison to the glory we will receive in heaven. When we change our perspective from “me” to “we,” we are offering God a multitude of ways to work through us to help others.
Mini-Message: We must keep our hearts open to the needs of those around us and do what we can to help. This is what Jesus calls us to do.

Hay muy poco espacio para Dios en un corazón egoísta
En el evangelio de hoy, Lázaro es “invisible” para el hombre rico, pues el hombre rico está tan concentrado en sus propios deseos y placeres que ignora las necesidades de quienes lo rodean. Incluso después de que el hombre rico muere, no cambia su corazón egoísta. Sus preocupaciones son solamente su comodidad y la de su familia rica. El hombre rico no ayudó a los necesitados en su vida terrenal porque no había compasión en su corazón. Por lo tanto, le fue negada la vida eterna con Dios.
¿Tratamos a los pobres, a los enfermos y a los ancianos como invisibles en nuestras propias vidas? Dios tiene una afinidad especial con los pobres y con los que sufren. Es nuestro llamado ser las manos de Jesús ofreciéndoles ayuda cuando y como podamos. No debemos ser como el hombre rico que ignoró las necesidades de los que sufrían a su alrededor. No debemos permitir que nuestros corazones se llenen de “yo, yo, yo”, a tal punto que perdamos de vista a quienes nos rodean.
Cuanto más hagamos por los demás, más hará Dios por nosotros. Las pruebas de esta vida palidecerán en comparación con la gloria que recibiremos en el cielo. Cuando cambiamos nuestra perspectiva del “yo” al “nosotros”, le ofrecemos a Dios una variedad de formas en las que a través de nosotros se ayuda a los demás.
El Mini Mensaje: Debemos mantner nuestros corazones abiertos a las necesidades de quienes nos rodean y hacer lo que podemos para ayudar. Esto es lo que Jesús nos llama a hacer.
