The Parish Family of
St. Thomas Aquinas
Whether you have come here by yourself or with your family, please know that this parish family longs for you to be a part of us. As our Lord Jesus said to His first followers,
Come and see!
Welcome to Advent!
The Advent of our God…
The new liturgical year of the Church year has begun. Historically, Advent (like a second Lent), evolved over time in preparation for the Advent of our God. While we think it is in preparation for Christmas, in truth, it is for the Second Coming of the Lord! We live – sandwiched between these two realities. In truth one could argue then that everyday is an Advent day! I personally like this concept because every time that the Lord comes into my life….Advent happens!
Unlike all other living creatures, we humans cannot live without hope, without purpose, without expectations. Our world is a fragile place, our political leadership disappoints us, there is an air of ‘uncertainty’ and ‘anxiety’ that they cannot seem to dissipate. Where do we go to ‘feel’ anchored? Answer: Church! We listen again with expectant ‘ears’ to the hopeful words that Advent liturgically proclaims. We humans need something to live for, something to look forward to! Don’t let the commercial mania at this time of year rob you of the Promise, Peace and Purpose of Advent! Advent is a GIFT FROM GOD for us, not wrapped, not useless, received by all differently, to the degree that we can embrace it. Please come to Advent with ‘childlike’ expectation! To paraphrase Jesus – “children get it!”
